Is A Niche Blog Beneficial for Today’s Blogger?

I have had a lot of people ask me which type of blog is better broad or niche blog. I often I tell them it depends on what you are looking for. It depends on what type of audience you are trying to reach.  What type of topic you are willing to discuss?

When I first started blogging I was told to niche down. So I started a blog about healthy living. To be honest, that was one of the hardest blog to write because I wanted to write about other things. I did not because I want to stick with my niche but I felt so boxed in.

I stopped blogging and then change by blogging platform from niche to broad. Which was not a bad thing but my blogging topic was all over place. My blog was not focus and it was not reaching my audience.

What type of blog is best?

Well, it depend who you are trying to reach. For example there are some blog sites that talk about couponing and discounts. That type of niche work for them because they have two things on their blog that is about couponing and finding discounts. Their are niche within two categories that is a popular topic.

Then there are other blogs that are so Niche down that finding a topic or keeping the blog engaging can be difficult. I love the example that Carly give on Mommy of Purpose on her blog post: “How narrow does your niche have to be to have a successful blog?”. She gave the example of a stamp collector. The stamp collector can be an expert in the field but email list will grow very slowly.

Sometimes having a Niche blog can cause you to lose out on potential readers. When niche(ing) down on a blog you are stuck with that certain niche and to be honest it is hard trying to write about the same thing over and over again.

Writing a broad blog gives you the opportunity to write to multiple audiences. You are not defining to one category type. For example mom blogs has become very popular. That may seem too broad but the topic on a mom blog is endless. On a mom blog you can blog about saving money, child rearing and marriage, which reach a multiple group of people. With a niche blog you are reaching out to a small group of people who have same interest.

The purpose of a blog is to reach people.

That is why I caution about choosing one specific niche because you may not reach a lot of people. When it comes to gaining sponsors or affiliates the first question a sponsor asks is, “what is your niche?”  That does not mean you have to give a niche down version of your blog but a general area of who your blog reach. There are some blog that has a broad feel but have a niche market which can help can gain sponsors and affiliate.

Another thing to think about with a niche blog is “who is your market?”

In my case, my market is for working moms, age range 30+, who is trying to save money.  If you can get an idea on who you are trying to reach, your market is you niche. Let’s go back to the stamp collector. Her market is simply for stamp collector over the age of 40. That is a smaller market. Now if we look at someone who market is for stamp collector, over the age of 40,   and how to sell on eBay or Amazon that gives the blogger a bigger market.

The way I look at a niche is based on the market I am trying to reach. When looking at a niche base your niche off of you market not your blog type. When you can base you niche off of your market you can expand your blog to more readers. If you blog is about lifestyle you can market to different ages, gender, income etc. for your blog. Your brand is your umbrella and your market is the individual small niches or market you are reaching.

Remember when trying to get a niche base your niche off of your market. That will give you a broader topic to write about and give you a bigger audience.

The Benefits of A Quality Post

The Benefits of A Quality Post.

Returning back to blogging has brought some challenges for me. Trying to crank out 2 blogs a week and being had and very trying. Till recently when I read a blog post from Taylor Stanford at https://www.taylorstanford.com. As I look over her blog she was not pushing out 2 or 3 blog post a week put she was doing maybe 1 or 2 blog a week. Yet,  her blog post was fill with quality information.

That is the benefits of a quality post. You don’t need 3 post a week to get viewers but having a quality will give you returning viewers.

That was an eye opener for me. I was about to give up on blogging AGAIN. I was not able to put out my 2 blog post like I like. That made me feel like a failure. To be honest that what stop me from blogging before.  I set up myself up for this high standard about blogging but did not take in consideration that I have a life. A very active life. I am blogger, mother of two small children, wife and I work full-time. By the time my day end I am exhausted and tired.

Reevaluating my blog.

So I had to sit down and reevaluate myself and blog and what I wanted out of my blog. What I want is an engaging and active blog that I ENJOY doing. Instead of a blog that I sweating bullets because I don’t have a certain amount of blog post.

My ultimate goal is to use my blog as a full time income. I know that it will take time and I have to pace myself. Where I am not posting two blogs a week, I am updating my Pinterest Site, working on the cosmetic of my blog and taking classes on how to be a better blogger. To me, that is part of my blogging dream.

I have read several; blog post about how to do a blog post within an hour but honestly I feel like I am gypping myself and you the reader. I rather for my blog post to take me a 3 to 4 days to develop but it be a quality post. Then 1 hour and it be a crappy post.

By me taking the route of producing a quality post it allow me to give you the reader a post that you can come back to reference and to learn something. IF that means that my Quality post take a little longer for me to produce then so be it.

I hope this inspire you to write more quality to post. It should be our goal to have more engaging reader.

Thanks for Stopping by

Why Did I Marry This Man?

MarriageCongratulation on your new marriage. You finally turned over in your bed and asked yourself.

“Why did I marry this Man?”

The fantasy that you had about your marriage came crashing down because you just had your first argument.  Its your first year in your marriage and you are questioning if you made the right decision.   Now you are questioning yourself if you married the right man. TRUST me when I tell you have and you are not the long ranger.

What you have to remember is that married take a lot of work

I remember when my husband and I had our first big argument. We was just three months into our marriage and I was already ready to throw in the towel.  I had packed up me and my daughter things and I was moving back in with my parents. Because in my mind I thought that in my first year of married we will never have any arguments and we would have the perfect married like they show on television but I quickly realized that is television and not real life.

Your wedding is for one day married is for a lifetime.

What you have to remember is that married take a lot of work. Let me say that again, MARRIED TAKE A LOT OF WORK.  As women, sometimes  we get caught up in the wedding and we sometimes forget that the wedding is for one day and married is for a lifetime.

Trust me there was a time and still is when I tell myself that I cannot do this anymore and I want to walk away but I realized that every bump that I have in my married is a testimony that I can share to a new couple. I tell myself that divorce is not an option for petty stuff that we can work on.

Don’t cross the line of comparing your marriage to someone else’s.

Plus, I had to learn to not compare my married to someone else married. What may work for their married may not work for my married. I am what you call a  free spirit. Truthfully, my mind wonders from one project to another. Now my husband,  is more of the logical thinker in out marriage.  He thinks about a project before he start. If I compared my married to someone else marriage it would not work for us.  I believe in getting marriage advice from someone who has been married for a long time. I just don’t cross the line of comparing their marriage to mines.

Another thing I want to point out is to always, always pray for your married. I have learned the power of prayer. My daily prayers is my married. I pray that my married is strong. As a wife I pray that me and my husband are faithful to each other.  With my prayers I also pray for grown and unity in my marriage.

What happens within your marriage stays within your marriage.

I am also learning that what happen in my marriage stays within my marriage. I have my parents to thank for that. My mom and dad could have a drag out fight but no one outside the house would ever now it. Watching them be that way has made me that way. I never tell anyone when Marion and I have an argument because to me people feed off of negativity and I do not want anyone to look at marriage as a bad thing. Second, when I tell my business outside of my marriage then  that open the door for the enemy to come in and destroy my marriage with other people views instead of me going to the Lord in prayer.

I also never talk negative about my husband. I know my husband has flaws but I also have flaws. So it likes the pot calling the kettle black. I am learning to pray on myself when it comes to things that my husband may say or do that I don’t like instead of me sharing my frustration with other people.

Lastly but never least always, always, always keep Christ in your married. Trust me you want to keep Christ in your married because it will make your married so much better.

There will be some mornings you will ask you self why you married this man and you can tell yourself you did it because this is someone you want to spend the rest of your life with.
